Former U.S. senator John Edwards delivered the keynote address at the Western New York Poverty Symposium, sponsored by the University at Buffalo to address the scope of the problem in the U.S. and public policy responses.
Regional Institute Director Kathryn A. Foster provided regional context with demographic data on Western New York. A panel of public experts, including representatives of UB, regional human service organizations, the Erie County Department of Social Services and the New York State Board of Regents, discussed regional poverty approaches and issues. A question-and-answer session with members of the audience followed the presentations.
