Together with William Barnes of the National League of Cities, UB Regional Institute director Kathryn A. Foster co-hosted and presented work on modes of regional governance at the NLC offices in Washington D.C., in early February. Attended by scholars and policy practitioners, including representatives of the Brookings Institution, Governing magazine, Chicago Metropolis 2020 and the Mid-America Regional Council, the workshop addressed how a region’s problem-solving and decision-making approaches matter for understanding and acting on regional challenges. Foster presented additional work on this topic at late February meetings of the Building Resilient Regions network, a multi-year research project funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
