Labor Market Assessment for Buffalo Niagara
An assessment of the regional economy and target industries across the eight counties of Western New York.
Commissioned by Invest Buffalo Niagara, UBRI is conducting an updated and expanded labor market study to support an understanding of the regional economy and economic development efforts. The study will update the work UBRI completed in 2010 (Who’s Your Economy?), which yielded insights on strategies for attracting new businesses to the region, advancing and aligning workforce training with employer needs, and planning for business development across the eight counties of Western New York.
The study will feature new research on talent attraction and retention, underemployment, including characteristics of underemployed workers in the region, the landscape of workforce training to support regional target industries, employer-union success stories, and labor cost trends.
The nine-month study will be completed by UBRI in partnership with The John R. Oishei’s Mobile Safety Net Team, Make Communities, and The Pathfinders. The team’s work will also be guided by an Advisory Group comprised of regional economic and labor market experts, in addition to workforce intermediaries from across the region.
