The 2020 UBRI Impact Report is a cross-section of our recent projects that together celebrate our work in the Buffalo-Niagara region, and illustrate our value in understanding the complex and interconnected factors that make up healthy economies. Together our projects tell the story of how we, through data, public engagement, strategic thinking, problem solving and communications, help community leaders and policy makers grow, support and sustain a 21st century economy. The report demonstrates our focus on regional economic development strategy around four interconnected pillars—placemaking, workforce, sustainability and innovation; and how we work within and across these pillars to promote and connect the dots to build the larger ecosystem that will be critical for long-term growth. We reflect on the realities of 2020—new widespread and long-lasting economic and social turmoil caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and racial injustices—and present our proven economic resiliency strategies as a way our region can emerge even stronger than before.
