A recent addition to the UBRI Team, Heike is interested in innovative public policy, intelligent urban design, and data-driven decision-making to create more livable, equitable, and sustainable places. She uses a wide range of skills, including geospatial and data analysis, to support the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Clean Energy Communities program as well as various projects at UBRI, including Numbers in Need (a second-generation project of Strengthening WNY’s Safety Net) and the Riverline Equitable Development Framework.

She holds a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design (PennDesign), where she concentrated in sustainable transportation and infrastructure planning and received the 2019 C. Britton Harris Award for excellent work in transportation planning. While at PennDesign, Heike was a teaching assistant and served on the board of the Penn Transportation Club. She honed her research and GIS skills as an Associate Planner at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission contributing to transportation projects for the Greater Philadelphia region.

Heike also holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and environmental studies from Wellesley College. She studied abroad in Germany at the Technical University of Munich which was formative to her career path. A native of Amherst, this Western New York re-pat considers herself a lifelong learner. When she’s not learning something new, Heike enjoys playing with her dog, spending time outdoors hiking with her family, and traveling.
