In 2010 UBRI completed a regional labor market assessment for Invest Buffalo Niagara (formerly Buffalo Niagara Enterprise), a business marketing organization for the region. The research effort assessed the region’s labor market to yield insight on strategies for attracting new businesses to the region, improving workforce training and aligning labor supply and demand. 

The project was guided by an Advisory Group of regional economic and labor market experts and workforce intermediaries from across the region. The institute partnered with the Cornell University Industrial Labor Relations School to carry out the research program, which included extensive data collection and analysis, a survey of WNY employers and focus groups across the region to engage diverse perspectives on the region’s labor market challenges and opportunities. The effort’s final report was publicly released in September 2010.
