Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC)

A 20-year master plan to govern anticipated growth and development of BNMC’s 72-acre campus

The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus is a five-member consortium of healthcare and medical research institutions dedicated to a collaborative effort to create an urban center of excellence for educational, medical and scientific research, medical care, and entrepreneurship.

The BNMC and its associate institutions embarked on the creation of a 20-year master plan to govern anticipated growth and development of their 72-acre campus near Downtown Buffalo and to relate those expected developments to adjacent Allentown and Fruit Belt neighborhoods.

A year later, the master plan process was led by Chan Krieger and Associates of Cambridge, MA, and supported locally by The Urban Design Project of the University at Buffalo.

The master plan elaborates the consortium’s basic strategy for achieving a world-class medical campus – by improving and augmenting the infrastructure of the current medical district, creating economic development opportunities, and supporting the improvement of campus neighbors in Allentown, Downtown and the Fruit Belt.
